The British/Irish Jesuit Novitate
“Why should Jesuits engage in work with those who are poor and marginalised?” Because, as our recent General Congregation put it: “Our Mission today is the service of faith, of which the promotion of justice is an absolute requirement.”
Direct service of those in need; social and cultural analysis; theological reflection on questions of injustice; and campaigning alongside others who strive to make our world a more just place - these are the elements of Jesuit Social Ministry, a fundamental aspect of the Society’s work.
The British/Irish Jesuit Novitiate is situated in St. Mary’s Parish at “Manressa House”, (formerly “St. Gabriels) at 10 Albert Road, Harborne and is the Novitiate for
the Provinces of Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands and North Belgium.

During 2023 Manressa House went through a complete redesign and refitting leaving only the original middle part remaining from the past, the interior which was redesigned. Two new accommodation wings were built at the rear and a new chapel built on the right hand side. The rear gardens were redesigned and the front garden was opened up.
